Smooth Operators: The Dish on Exfoliating Your Skin

March 6, 2013 at 1:58 pm

Exfoliation tips

Are you suffering from the lizard syndrome? When your skin has endured severe weather conditions and starts to flake and peel. Whether it is extreme heat or extreme cold, the skin, especially on the face, reacts to these weather conditions  in the worst ways.

During the cold months the skin naturally tends to become drier than usual and  produces flakes that makes it look unhealthy. This is because in the winter months there is a lack of moisture in the air. Whereas, after you have spent your vacation sunbathing on that picturesque beach, your skin also damages. In this situation the result is excessive peeling because of the over-consumption of Vitamin D.

The solution for these skin issues is exfoliation! This remedy will make all  those  flakes and dry patches disappear! In other words, the dead cells that have piled up on the skin’s surface would vanish and the result is soft, smooth skin!

Diet Tip: Is Coffee Healthy?

June 5, 2012 at 7:00 am

For many people, coffee is the most desirable way to start the day. In recent times, coffee tasting has become an art form much like wine tasting. This drink has a pleasing combination of taste with just the right acidity, body, finish, and aroma. That bundle of flavor and smell is arousing and tempting anywhere: at work, at home, on the streets–it’s just irresistible! Coffee’s benefits and drawbacks have been argued for decades, but lately many studies have revealed that coffee’s benefits might just outweigh the negatives. Here are some pro and cons regarding coffee consumption.

Coffee’s Benefits

Antioxidants Coffee is packed with antioxidants, which curb cellular damage through oxidation, prevent the inflammation of the blood vessels, and have powerful disease-fighting properties, such as cancer. Polyphenols or flavonoids, the type of antioxidants found in tea, cranberries, red wine, and chocolate, are also present in coffee. If you’re looking to increase your antioxidant intake, coffee is a step in the right direction.

Prevents Type 2 Diabetes Studies have shown that the Chlorgoenic acid found in coffee can prevent the onset of Type 2 diabetes. Caffeine is known to raise blood sugar levels and highly increase energy expenditure in a short period of time; consequently, it increases your body’s insulin sensitivity, lowering the risk of developing this type of disease.

Trainer Tip: Healthy Eating for Healthy Travel

January 5, 2012 at 1:26 pm

Eating well when you travel can be quite a challenge, especially when you’re confined to the cabin of an airplane or the inside of a terminal for several hours. This is one topic I know well, as I was flight attendant for five years. With a little planning ahead, you can have healthful meals and snacks during your journey.

These days, unless you’re flying across multiple time zones, you’re not likely to be served anything other than a mini-bag of salty snacks. It’s okay to have these snacks as long as you have a cup of water or juice with them. Airplane travel can increase your risk of dehydration, so be sure to have fluids as often as you can, especially water. Alcoholic drinks or drinks with caffeine in them can contribute to dehydration.

Trainer Tip: 5 Ways to Brighter, More Beautiful Skin

January 3, 2012 at 12:11 pm

The cold weather is here, which means it’s time for the scarves, hats, coats, and gloves.  Unfortunately, the cold weather makes our skin dull and dry. While we can’t change the weather, we can make some changes to help brighten our skin–especially for our gorgeous faces! Here are 5 tips to help our faces shine!

1. Drink plenty of water. This is the easiest way to brighten your skin. Water is an all-natural way to provide moisture to our bodies. Try to drink 8 glasses (8 oz.) of water per day.

2. Eat green vegetables. Greens are a source of many vitamins and antioxidants that are essential for healthy living–and for healthy skin! Add an extra serving or two of green veggies into your diet.

3. Get enough sleep. Sleep is the secret cure to staying young. It may even help prevent wrinkles. Aim for at least 8 hours of sleep each night.

4. Moisturize. Moisturizer is very important, particularly in the cold weather. Cold winds can make skin very dry, chapped, and blotchy. A good moisturizer is necessary to retain the natural glow in your face.

5. Enjoy a facial! Facials are key in bringing that radiance back into the face. Plus, the feeling of being pampered is always a major bonus!

I hope these tips can help make a difference in improving the natural beauty in all of our faces that the cold weather can strip away. (You never know until you try it!)
