Truth be told wearing makeup to the gym is simply a bad idea. The combination of dirt,  sweat and makeup clogs the pores and results in the big tomato- like creatures forming on the surface of the skin. But we don’t have to see makeup as the enemy, it is actually can be one of our close friends.

When we are suffering from a “bad” day, when everything seems to be wrong with our appearance (under eye bags, huge zits, oily skin) we turn to makeup (the magic fairy) to make those flaws temporarily disappear. The reality is that when we see ourselves as “confident and beautiful” we get the motivation and zeal to go out into the world and conquer, including going to the gym.

Use these 3 beauty products to keep your skin healthy and help you have a positive attitude as you embark on your daily routine!

Working up a sweat at the gym is great for your body, but can wreak havoc on your skin and hair. Here are ten beauty essentials to keep in your bag to beat that post-workout funk.

1. Cleansing wipes:  It’s important after sweating it out, that you clean your face of bacteria and residue left on your skin. Use these cleansing wipes for a quick wipe-down to prevent future breakouts.

2. Deodorant: The most common post-workout problem is having stinky pits.   Freshen up on the go by keeping a travel size deodorant in your bag, swipe it on before you head out the door.

3. Body Spray: Another product to have on hand to combat smelly body odor is body spray. Choose a light, fresh scent like citrus or cucumber for an extra pick-me-up.

4. Lip Balm:  Swipe on some lip balm (with SPF for added protection) after your workout. Tinted balms give a sheer wash of color to brighten up your face.

5. Body Wash: If you have time for a shower after your gym sesh, having body wash in your stash is a must. Pick a wash with a moisturizer to keep skin clean and smooth.

Want Younger Looking Skin? Six Tips to Keep the Years Off

We all want visibly younger skin. And while there’s no easy fix for damage that has already been done, there are a few things you can do to further prevent premature aging.

Don’t use bar soap.

Switch to a gentle cleanser. Soap dries the skin and strips the skin of all natural oils, which we need. Soap is also a detergent and may contain harsh agents like SLS which may not be gentle on your face. It makes the soap foamy with bubbles that clog up pores.

Don’t wait until bedtime to wash your face.

Wash your face as soon as you come home and follow up with a rich moisturizer. Even if you don’t wear makeup, you need to cleanse your skin of pollution, dust and recycled air from outside.

Wear sunscreen everyday.

Sunscreen is not just for the  summer. Pick up a facial moisturizer with SPF 15 or higher. Choose one with a matte finish so makeup goes over it well. It will protect your skin from premature wrinkling, age spots and a leathery texture.
