Great for Hanukkah or any other occasion, these no sugar added sauces are sure to delight your palate and add some some sass to your dish.

  • 6 apples (peeled, cored and cut into large chunks.  I always use a variety of apples.)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup water

To make sauce:

1. Wash, core and cut apples into chunks – about 8 chunks per apple.  I always leave the skin on for the extra nutrients.
2. Combine apple chunks, water and cinnamon in a pan and heat until it boils.
3.  Simmer for 25-30 minutes over low heat.
4. Stir and mash if desired.
5. Add cinnamon
6. Serve hot or cold.  Store in Tupperware. It will keep in a  refrigerator for a week or in the freezer for up to a year.

Pear Sauce:

Pears bring a unique sweetness to the traditional fruit sauce, and follow the same basic recipe with a few minor changes.

Changes:

1. Chop pears into small chunks as they take longer to break down than the apples do.
2. Simmer for 40 minutes after bringing to a boil.
3. Mash until desired consistency is reached.
4. If you would like to add another flavor component, I’ve found ginger goes wonderfully.
