Nutritionist Natalie’s Diet Tip of the Week: Facts about Cocktails
The weekend is almost here, which means many of you may be looking forward to a happy hour or a night out. (Don’t worry–we’re not going to tell you not to have fun!) In addition to drinking responsibly, you can drink smartly by knowing just how many calories you’re consuming in each drink.
Martini = 6 oz. of liquor = up to 400 calories
Margarita- = 1.5 oz. of liquor + 6 oz. mixer = 400 calories (at least!)
Liqueurs = 1 oz. Kahlua, amaretto, or schnapps= 110-135 calories
Strawberry Daiquiri (8 oz.) = 350 cal
Bailey’s (1 oz.) = 150 calories and 7 grams of fat
Pina Colada (8 oz.) = 600 calories and 12 grams fat
What are the best cocktail choices if you’re trying to cut calories? Try these:
Champagne flute = 100 calories
Wine Spritzer (1/2 wine, 1/2 club soda) = 60 calories
Red or white wine (5 oz.) = 100 calories
Regular beer = 150 calories
Light beer = 100 calories
Vodka/gin (1 oz., with diet soda) = 65 calories
