10 Sunscreen Tips You Need to Know!

May 1, 2013 at 12:00 pm

sunscreen tips

The weather is getting warmer and we’re already spending much more time outdoors. While we’re out enjoying the sun, we need to make sure we’re staying protected. Here are 10 sunscreen tips you need to know!

1.  Get UV-A and UV-B protection.
Opt for a sunscreen that provides both UV-A and UV-B protection. This way, you’ll protect your skin from ultraviolet-B (UV-B) rays, which cause sunburns and skin damage, as well as ultraviolet-A (UV-A) rays that increase your risk for skin cancer.

2. Choose SPF 30 or higher.
Always use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Keep in mind, though, that higher isn’t that much better when it comes to SPF numbers. Here’s why: SPF protection doesn’t increase proportionately with the designated SPF number. So while SPF 30 absorbs 97% of the sun’s burning rays, SPF 50 absorbs just slightly more — 98%

3. Apply sunscreen early and liberally.
Your skin can take up to a half-hour to fully absorb sunscreen. Plan ahead and apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside.

Spending tons of money on a new beauty product that claims to “banish acne instantly!” sounds closely familiar. When these products are introduced to us through false advertising, we get lured into purchasing them because they claim to banish pimples and fade dark circles with just one application.  Yet our skin remains the same: dry/flaky/oily/acne prone and nothing has changed, except our wallet – which has become a lot lighter.

These products also boast having natural ingredients. So question is “why don’t we use nature’s products instead of buying a moisturizer that is 5% natural and 95% chemical?

Here are 3 “au natural” products that are easy on your wallet, easy to find and will help with your skin problems!

5 Quick Styling Tricks For Post-Workout Hair + 13 Products To Live By!

post workout hair tips

Have you ever not gone to the gym because you just don’t want to ruin your perfect blowout? Caught in a chaotic urban lifestyle, women don’t always have time to wash their hair after a gym class and then go to work. Keeping your ‘do looking good should never stand in the way of a workout!

Beauty excuses be gone! Say goodbye to sweaty hair with these 5 simple styling methods:

1. Update the ponytail look.

Dump the tight elastic band for a wide, plush hair holder or a big hair chignon pin. Why? Because the tight elastic not only creates tangles and dents in your strands – it makes your hair looks really flat after working out. The less you expose your hair to sweat the better.  Pull your hair up in a bun and put the pin or a bigger clip on the side and, you’ll get some extra volume when taking hair down.

2. Go with a 3-5 min blow-dry.

Luckily, you can skip the woes of a perfect, time sucking blow-dry by focusing only on your locks and around the hairlines where you sweat. It’s all about giving oomph to the most visible areas. Dry the front strands and the crown, add styling cream or serum to add shininess and tame flyways.

Truth be told wearing makeup to the gym is simply a bad idea. The combination of dirt,  sweat and makeup clogs the pores and results in the big tomato- like creatures forming on the surface of the skin. But we don’t have to see makeup as the enemy, it is actually can be one of our close friends.

When we are suffering from a “bad” day, when everything seems to be wrong with our appearance (under eye bags, huge zits, oily skin) we turn to makeup (the magic fairy) to make those flaws temporarily disappear. The reality is that when we see ourselves as “confident and beautiful” we get the motivation and zeal to go out into the world and conquer, including going to the gym.

Use these 3 beauty products to keep your skin healthy and help you have a positive attitude as you embark on your daily routine!

We have grown tired of the blistering winds, the grey skies and black dreary coats that has surrounded our lives. Thankfully the time is getting closer to stuff  that dreary  down coat in the back of your closet. With the beloved season of spring right around the corner, we  anxiously wait for the blossoming  flowers and sunshine weather to appear, but for now we have to wait and prepare.

An easy way to get ready for spring is to incorporate color into your lifestyle, whether it is decorating the living room with a batch of tulips or a brightening your outfit with lavender flats, choosing COLOR  over dark gloomy shades will brighten your mood and help you escape the winter blues you have suffered with for the past few months.

A simple way for us ladies to achieve such happiness is to refresh our makeup routine with colorful lipsticks! Making the mouth the focal attention of the face, bright lips is a fun way to enlighten your mood, change your look  and show that you are spring ready!  The only problem here is that there are too many colors to chose from!

Not to worry I have found  the perfect color to match any skin tone! As one of the  ”it colors” for spring, blood orange ( a mixture of red and orange) is the ideal hue to swipe onto your lips. Weird as the color may sound, it actually does compliment all skin tones!

Below is a list of  reddish orange lip products that will suit anyone’s preferences, I know bright colors can be a bit scary for some of you, so I’ve included products that will give your lips a subtle hue of this amazing color!

Smooth Operators: The Dish on Exfoliating Your Skin

Exfoliation tips

Are you suffering from the lizard syndrome? When your skin has endured severe weather conditions and starts to flake and peel. Whether it is extreme heat or extreme cold, the skin, especially on the face, reacts to these weather conditions  in the worst ways.

During the cold months the skin naturally tends to become drier than usual and  produces flakes that makes it look unhealthy. This is because in the winter months there is a lack of moisture in the air. Whereas, after you have spent your vacation sunbathing on that picturesque beach, your skin also damages. In this situation the result is excessive peeling because of the over-consumption of Vitamin D.

The solution for these skin issues is exfoliation! This remedy will make all  those  flakes and dry patches disappear! In other words, the dead cells that have piled up on the skin’s surface would vanish and the result is soft, smooth skin!
