Review: thinkThin® Protein Bars: Smart Snacking For The Girl On The Go!

May 17, 2013 at 4:26 pm

Like most working girls, I am always busy and on the go, which sometimes makes eating healthy a challenge! I pre-pack my meals to ensure that I’m getting all the proper nutrients throughout the day, and one of my favorite things to throw in my bag are nutrition and protein bars.

I’ve had my share of protein bars that not only didn’t taste very good, but that were loaded with sugar and fat. On May 4th, at the EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women, I was lucky enough to get a taste of thinkThin® protein bars and I fell in love!

These bars are DELICIOUS, with little to no sugar, and are packed with protein to keep you satisfied while you’re out living life. My favorite of the thinkThin® line were the Divine Mint Chocolate Coconut bars. It was the perfect after-dinner treat that I enjoyed guilt-free!

I’ll be purchasing more of these during my next grocery run to keep in my bag for those unexpected moments when hunger strikes! Try them out and let me know if you love them too!

10 Sunscreen Tips You Need to Know!

May 1, 2013 at 12:00 pm

sunscreen tips

The weather is getting warmer and we’re already spending much more time outdoors. While we’re out enjoying the sun, we need to make sure we’re staying protected. Here are 10 sunscreen tips you need to know!

1.  Get UV-A and UV-B protection.
Opt for a sunscreen that provides both UV-A and UV-B protection. This way, you’ll protect your skin from ultraviolet-B (UV-B) rays, which cause sunburns and skin damage, as well as ultraviolet-A (UV-A) rays that increase your risk for skin cancer.

2. Choose SPF 30 or higher.
Always use a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Keep in mind, though, that higher isn’t that much better when it comes to SPF numbers. Here’s why: SPF protection doesn’t increase proportionately with the designated SPF number. So while SPF 30 absorbs 97% of the sun’s burning rays, SPF 50 absorbs just slightly more — 98%

3. Apply sunscreen early and liberally.
Your skin can take up to a half-hour to fully absorb sunscreen. Plan ahead and apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going outside.

5 Questions With Lindsay Luv: Curator of Lucille Roberts Radio!

April 15, 2013 at 4:41 pm

LindsayLuv

We sat down with DJ Lindsay Luv, the curator of the playlists on Lucille Roberts Radio and our friend in fitness. Check out our interview with her and let us know what you’d like us to ask her for next month’s chat! Don’t forget to follow her on Twitter and like her on Facebook!

1. Summer is all about tank top arms. Which celebrity’s arms would you love to have?

Angelina Jolie from her Tomb Raider days! She has long lanky limbs and they looked so amazing when she played that kick butt role!

2. We’re gearing up to pull our bikinis out of storage. What 5 songs are great for those long sessions at the gym?

“Every Inch” by Florrie”

“I Love It” (Feat. Charli XCX) by Icona Pop

“Sweet Nothing” (Feat. Florence Welch) by Calvin Harris

“Get Sweaty” by Cherie Lily

“Say Aha” by Santigold

3. There are so many great fruits and vegetables during the Spring season. What are you adding to your meals?

Asparagus is at it’s best right now! I love tossing them with some lemon zest, shallots, vinegar and oil then grilling them! They also make a delicious asparagus soup with a little creme fréche and crostini! Strawberries are great marinated in balsamic vinegar and paired with light cool whip or mixes into a green salad with pecans. I also love a beet salad with toasted hazelnuts and burrata or a simple arugula salad with cherry tomatoes and parmesan!

4. May is skin cancer prevention month. What products do you use to protect yourself from the sun’s harsh rays?

I always wear a daily 30 SPF by a family dermatologist on my face so I don’t break out from it, and on my body I am obsessed with the smell of Ocean Potion’s sunscreens! They are lemony and mix great with my daily lotion from Fresh. For freckle-prone areas I use a Neutrogena 50 liquid sunscreen. Oh and hats and sunglasses don’t hurt!

5. If you could only do one outdoor exercise for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Hiking! I love being out in nature- it doesn’t even feel like I’m ‘exercising’ I enjoy the scenery so much- Even when huffing and puffing up a mountain :)

10 Facts About STI’s to Keep Your Lady Parts in Check

April 1, 2013 at 3:42 pm

STI Awareness Month STI facts for women

April is STD/STI Awareness month, and while we’ve all had to take a health class or two, you may need a refresher on the information you learned in school. Here are 10 facts you’ll need to know to keep your lady parts in check!

1.  Every year there are more than 19 million new cases of STIs in the U.S. By age 25, roughly one in two sexually active people will get an STI.

2. Women often confuse STIs with yeast infections and other conditions. That’s why it’s important to see a health care provider, who can determine what (if any) STIs you should be tested for.

3.  STIs, including HIV, often have NO symptoms. Zero. That’s right. So, many people who are infected don’t even know it!

4. Putting off getting care for an STI can have lasting health effects for both women and men. Left untreated, some STIs can cause infertility or increase your risk of getting cancer.

5. You can’t assume that you have been tested for STIs if you have had blood taken, given a urine sample, or had a pelvic exam or pap test. If you want to know, ASK to be tested.
