Are you hitting the treadmill, weight room or Zumba class for the first time? Perhaps you just haven’t been in a while. No matter what your reason is, getting into gym mode can be a challenge for some people.
To help with your gym etiquette, try following our few simple rules to avoid being THAT person while you’re working out:
1. Take your calls outside
As easy as it may be to grab your cell and dial-up your gal pals to catch up on the latest gossip, it’s a major no-no when you’re at the gym. Many people tend to hop on a machine and start chatting away while “working out,” but this can seriously distract you and your fellow gym-goers. So opt to stash your phone in your locker. Your peers––and your waistline––will thank you.
2. Be on time for class
Don’t be that girl running into class late! Most of the time, instructors use the first five minutes of class to explain what it entails so participants understand what they will be doing. It can be dangerous to miss the warm-up too, so always try to be on time. Anything more than 10 minutes is unacceptable.
3. Respect other people’s space
A lot of the time, people end up plopping themselves anywhere while in class or hovering over someone on a machine. You wouldn’t like it if someone was invading your personal space would you? Especially in class, try to find a spot where you can see yourself in the mirror, nd do the same for those around you. Be mindful of your surroundings.
4. Utilize the locker room
Even if you have no plans on changing or showering, opt to use the locker room to store your belongings. Your baggage will just take up valuable workout space for you and others. It can also be some what of a safety risk being left around the gym. Take advantage of the locker room!
5. Don’t hog the machines
The gym usually gets pretty busy at certain times of the day, so if you’re one to use a machine during your workout don’t hold up on one. LR has a 30 minute usage limit at most gyms so that all members will be able to get in some exercise time on them. Plus, 30 minutes is usually a sufficient for a great workout.
