Losing weight after having a baby can be a difficult task. And it’s not easy when some celebrities seem to drop the pounds in a flash after giving birth. While they do have expert help in the gym and in their kitchens, we can still take a few pointers from these famous women who have slimmed down post-pregnancy. Here are four fierce celebrities who have bounced back to their pre-baby weight, and we’ll tell you how!
The 5-foot-7, 31-year-old singer gave birth to her daughter Blue Ivy Carter on January 7, 2012, and has since returned back to her pre-pregnancy weight. During a performance in Atlantic City on Memorial Day 2012, Beyoncé told the audience the regimen that got her back into shape. “Y’all have no idea how hard I worked,” she said to her fans, “‘I had to lose 60 pounds. They had me on that treadmill. I ate lettuce!”.
While I’m sure she exaggerated the lettuce part, in an interview with People magazine Beyoncé said she counted calories and worked out at least 3 to 4 times a week. “I did a lot of walking in the beginning and now I’m running,” she said, “But I had to work my way up. I couldn’t just go right from being pregnant to running.” Miss B also credits most of her weight loss to breast feeding. She breast fed Blue for 10 weeks after giving birth, and encourages other moms to do the same.
The former Victoria’s Secret model is not only famous for her killer body, but her ability to shed the baby weight in record time. But for Heidi Klum, now a mother of four, there are no shortcuts to losing weight after pregnancy.
“I’ve never really had any special girdle machines or anything like that,” she said, “For me, it’s, you know, really healthy foods, exercising, playing with the children, going to the park. Normal things.” Heidi also claims that she has “never done diets”. While this may or may not be true, she does encourage a diet full of healthy protein and avoiding carbs when you can. To keep her metabolism high, Heidi eats small healthy meals every three hours, and avoids eating after 7:00pm.
The 31-year-old actress, and mother of two, has been called a “sex symbol” and is frequently at the top of lists rating the hottest celebrities. Jessica admits that with her second pregnancy she didn’t indulge as much, which helped her snap back to her pre-pregnancy weight.
She also maintained her workout regimen and healthy eating throughout her entire pregnancy. “I did prenatal yoga up until the very end,” she said in an interview with US Weekly, “I just made healthier choices. I started working out and not going too crazy, but I did what was safe and what the doctor approved.” And two weeks after giving birth to her second daughter, Haven Garner, Jessica jumped right back on the exercise wagon. She started out by doing 40 minutes of cardio on a stationary bike and the elliptical, and has now upped her workouts to 90-minute personal training sessions, four days a week to maintain her weight.
When thinking of Gwen Stefani, her trademark rock-hard abs come to mind. However, even Gwen has admitted to having trouble shedding the weight after having her sons, Kingston and Zuma. She has said that her current figure is “no miracle,” and it took eight months for her to get back to her original weight after the birth of her second son, Zuma.
She stays focused by working out, eating healthy, and has said that she “cheats every day at least once.” As far as an exercise routine, Gwen told instyle.com, “I’ve tried yoga and Pilates before, but I just prefer old-school fitness workouts.” She works out with her personal trainer four times a week, who has her doing high-intensity resistance sessions – a series of simple exercises that are much more difficult when the rest periods are eliminated between sets.
